Real Wedding – Lara and Jacob

Last summer I was contacted by the most adorable couple who had their wedding planned for just a few days before Christmas – and their theme was a winter wonderland. But Lara and Jacob had this glam, 40’s throwback vision, not just your typical snowflakes and blue and glitter everywhere type of wonderland. This was a cardinal red, black, silver, and pearl winter wonderland. I was so excited!

We tweaked one of my more popular designs, “The Jennifer” I call it, after the first bride who purchased the design (this is my tradition). We added in her colors, flipped the design on its side (literally, making it a portrait style versus landscape), and mounted them to panel pockets, which are the go-between in the pocketfold world. All the joys of a pocketfold without the huge price tag. They are flat on the front and, instead of folding up, the pocket is smartly on the reverse for convenient insert storage!

Like a complete idiot, I did not snap any photos of Lara and Jacob’s assembled invitations. I will be kicking myself for that. Until I get around to having a set printed for myself, I can show you the design at least:

I also helped Lara with her table numbers, and these, at least, there are some pictures of! Props going out to Paige Hampton Photography, located in St. Louis, MO and Springfield, IL for the beautiful images of Lara and Jacob’s wedding!

So although it’s WAY overdue, a huge congratulations and a big thank you to Lara and Jacob on allowing me to be a part of their beautiful, romantic, glamorous winter wonderland wedding!

UPDATE! This morning Lara sent me some photos of her invitations so now I get to share them with the world! Thanks so much to Lara’s mom for finding the pics!

Presenting…. Cellar Door Craft Company!

I recently took about a month off from invitations for a few reasons.

1. I needed a break. I still work full time, so when I come home from my day job I am exhausted – and still have another 8 hours of work to do. I barely sleep! This is a good and a bad thing – I love what I do (and I love all of you brides and grooms out there), so that helps to keep it enjoyable… but my mood suffers from time to time and I barely have time to do laundry =)

2. Holidays. Wow. What a frenzy November 24th-ish til January 2nd is. I decided to make a bunch of Christmas gifts this year instead of just buying buying buying. And that was a blast! But took up a lot of extra time. As Christmas was fast approaching, I knew I would never get it all done if I didn’t put the brakes on the invites for a while.

3. …and this is the most exciting part… I opened up a THIRD Etsy shop! This is something I’ve wanted to do for a while – it’s not just invitations that I like to make, but lots of little craft projects. Over the holiday prepping period as my sister and I were making our gifts, she finally said out loud that she wanted to start a shop for realsies. And then our friend Megan jumped on board. And then we all went crazy with ideas and plans!

So we opened up The Cellar Door Craft Company on January 14th and it has been a crazy last couple weeks!

We will also be offering giveaways from time to time so stay tuned for that!

I will be back in the invitation business shortly and hope to have some new designs put together in the next couple weeks – as soon as I get some sleep.

Wedding Season Woes & Whoas

Wedding Season is upon us! And it has taken me by storm. Today I made my 400th sale!  It’s been a rough month for me but this statistic really put all those woes in perspective. May, 2012 found me as much in sales as my first entire year did (whoa). Hence the lack in communication. And – trust me – I am NOT complaining, but my products have changed so much between now and then that a lot more goes into what I do now. And takes a lot more time (woe). Like these – which came out great, and one of these days there will be an entire post dedicated to Ashley’s Lollipop invitations – which required wire cutters and a lot of extra assembly time:

I never get any sleep anymore. I can’t remember a night when I went to bed before 2:30am. On my 2nd wedding anniversary, I went out for a picnic with my husband at the site where we got married (whoa – it was awesome… he had a whole picnic waiting for me when I got home from my day job), and when we came home prematurely due to the 92 degree day, I went immediately upstairs into my air conditioned bedroom and spent the rest of the night in there, alone, working on invitations (woe). Sad, right? In fact, I started this blog post almost 8 hours ago now and am just finally getting around to finishing it.

The big payoff is that I LOVE WHAT I DO.  I get to work with some really awesome people from all over the world who inspire me on a daily basis (and I get to do cool things with wire, which I never anticipated – that was all Ashley’s idea). It’s the really laid back, willing to think outside of the box brides (and often the super traditional ones who are REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THEIR WEDDINGS!!!) that are the most fun. Enthusiasm goes a long way with me. It’s so much more interesting to take an existing design and punch it up a little – plus then you get a truly unique invitation. And I get to experiment. Frankenvitations!

Last month (or was it this month?? I don’t even know what month it is anymore let alone what day) I was contacted by a bride from New England (Massachusetts, to be exact) who wanted a rustic, woodsy invitation. I had just the thing – my Sabrina invitation. But she wanted a birchy-piney feel, so we added in some pine trees and -BAM- Emily’s visions came to life. They came out beautifully. I’m extra proud of these. Even my husband loved them. And he honestly doesn’t comment on much without prodding. Take a look!

Thank you Emily for working with me to come up with a really beautiful variation of this design! I hope you are as happy with how they came out as I am =)

I am also working with a good friend of mine, Jessica over at Seven Layer Designs, on some new  ideas involving papercut invitations – more to come on that. I’m so excited (whoa)!

And if that wasn’t enough to keep me busy, here are some photos of the latest Peacock Parties items!

I don’t know what I was thinking, launching a second Etsy shop in May. Of course I’m glad the new shop is up and running – I have a whole new line of items there… banners, dyed clothespins, cupcake toppers, birthday invitations, etc… and the response has been great!  Much much much more to come there in the future.

In the mean time, a BIG THANK YOU to all you brides who keep me happy on a daily basis with dreams of making this my full time gig. Not only the fun brides, but the ones who challenge me, too. The ones who think they’re nitpicky (actually all you’re doing is making me happier because you love your invites more when you get them!). The ones who come back to me when they have friends or sisters who get married or have babies and refer me their business. I am in awe of you ladies (and a few gentlemen!) and appreciate you more than you know.

Introducing… Peacock Parties!

I’ve finally decided to start photographing and offering many of the items that I do as custom projects through Peacock Printing. I have tried to keep Peacock Printing mainly wedding focused, but I find that as my sales grow and my brides start having babies… and then birthday parties… I am asked more and more often to make new types of items. So I’ve launched a second Etsy Shop, Peacock Parties.

Image

I thought it might be less confusing for you shoppers out there to separate the weddings out a bit from the parties. I will also be updating my logo shortly, and have a different one for each shop. Here are a few new items to keep an eye out for:

  • Cupcake toppers
  • Cake banners
  • Baby shower invitations
  • Graduation invitations
  • Christening invitations
  • Paper banners
  • Stickers
  • Dyed clothespins

A note on the dyed clothespins – this is a project we took on for my sister’s wedding, and they turned out amazing! Check out these photos!

I love how the woodgrain shows through a bit, making each one take on color a little bit differently. These are great for hanging up banners, photos, or anything else that will add to the decor of your next party! With over 500 colors available, you can match almost any color scheme!

Speaking of banners, they have been flying off the shelves lately – and I’m happy to see that, as they are SO much fun to create! I use 3 layers of cardstock to make them ultra sturdy, and use coordinating ribbon to tie it all together – pun intended. There are also some DIY options for you crafty folks out there.

NEW! PARTY IN A BOX:  Another item that I have been thinking about a lot lately, and have finally decided to offer in my shop, is a Party in a Box. Perfect for birthday parties, graduation parties, surprise parties, or really any other type of gathering, these will be offered in three different sizes: Small, Medium and Large. Small is built around 12 guests, Medium around 24, and Large around 36. Of course each can be customized to your number of attendees, but these are some basic packages. They include:

  • invitations
  • cupcake toppers and/or cake banner (depending on your package)
  • custom hanging banner (like the one in the photo above)
  • favor tags or stickers
  • an 8 x 10 sign to put on your door or on your mailbox to let your guests know they’ve arrived at the correct destination

Purchasing all of these items together will save 20% on the price of each item! And it will cut down on the time you have to spend coordinating items from different places (not to mention that you’ll get something handmade, completely custom, and not from a big box generic store)!

Many more photos to come once I get around to all the photography that I need to catch up on.

***ALSO***

It’s official! Letterpress is now available! I did my first letterpress job last week and COULD NOT be happier with the way they came out. A BIG shout out to Boxcar Press in Syracuse, NY for making my letterpress dreams come true. See below for some photos of these amazing barn invitations (I’m telling you, they are thick and dreamy in person)!

Anyway that’s about all for now – I’ll have some new photos soon so keep checking back!

A Long Overdue Update

Big things are happening here at Peacock Printing.

I scored myself a new office (to be shared with the incomparable talents of Teri Fiske and Michael Hanlon of Hanlon Weddings, Brady Dillsworth of Dillsworth Photography, Tomas Flint of Flint Weddings, and Dennis Allen, videographer, of Dawns Photography and Video Productions). I’m so excited about this I can barely contain myself. Finally having a place to meet with local clients will be nice, and teaming up with such a talented group of people can only be good.

There have been tons of new additions to my shop lately – to show off a few:

I’ve added several different styles of programs, menus, place cards, in addition to blank notecards (these make great gifts!).

Making an appearance in my shop are some custom designs I’ve done that I thought other people might like! Included are the Cinco de Mayo paper flags, as well as the Skyline Invitation (any major city is also available), and Nautical Invitation (all pictured above), but there are also some hydrangeas, lovebirds, peacocks, swirls, a bicycle, some music themed… the list goes on. Check out my Etsy Shop to see them and let me know what you think! Coming up – the Barn invitation! This one was a labor of love, and I ended up with a huge girl crush on the bride I designed it for, but that leads me into my very next announcement:

I’ve recently teamed up with Boxcar Press in Syracuse, NY to begin offering Letterpress invitations! I’m very excited about this. The Bailey Barn invitation will be my first Letterpress job, and I am SO HAPPY to begin offering this option to other brides! I have a full price list available to anyone interested in turning their invitations into something textured and extra special and should have some photos posted soon!

Here’s to a wonderfully successful summer full of endless possibilities!

Chartraspberry!

My sister’s getting married. Have I obsessed about mentioned this? I’m so excited I could pee. Now that she’s picked a color scheme, I couldn’t wait to create an etsy treasury showing it off!  Here are some teaser items – click HERE to see the whole treasury!

Happy Anniversary to Me!

Yesterday was my 2 year anniversary of opening up my Etsy shop! It’s amazing to me how far I’ve come since then.

  • Literally HUNDREDS of brides have been married with Peacock Printing stationery – 324 sales, to be exact (and that’s not counting the few I’m working with currently). This is my PROUDEST statistic.
  • My shop expanded to carrying pocket invitations as well as many other color and embellishment upgrades.
  • I’ve participated in several craft and bridal shows.
  • The Etsy Wedding Team made me a proud member!
  • I’ve made connections with event planners, photographers, other stationery designers, bakers… the list goes on.
  • Hedonist Artisan Chocolates selected me as the designer for their 2011 Valentine’s Day truffles – it was SO much fun to work outside of the paper medium for a bit (and to get to eat a lot of delicious chocolate).
  • I’ve been selected by Etsy for a feature in the Huffington Post! Not sure when yet, but I’ll keep you posted.
  • Biggest news so far this month – LETTERPRESS IS COMING TO PEACOCK PRINTING. i.am.so.excited!!!! I’ll have more on this in the next couple weeks.

In honor of the big 2 year anniversary, I am dropping sample prices to 2.00 for the month of March. That’s 60% off! Use coupon code HAPPYANNIVERSARY at checkout for your discount to be applied. Obvs this can only be applied to samples and not to your full custom order.

Stay tuned for info on more upcoming changes!

Kupcake wednesday.

My cousin Kristy started a blog about cupcakes. You can find it HERE. This amazes me for a number of reasons:

1. I remember when Kristy was BORN. So the fact that she’s even literate is weird to me – her sister and my sister were born 6 months apart, so they were thick as thieves, and as a result Kristy and I used to hang out at all the family functions even though she’s much younger than me. As a result I feel a certain connection to Kristy that I don’t have with many of my other cousins on the other side of my family. I think she’ll probably always be that little kid to me in some way.

2. Kristy is a grad student at Rutgers University, she goes to a lot of concerts, has a flourishing social life. How does she have time to blog about cupcakes? She must REALLY love cupcakes.

3. I had no idea that she loved cupcakes enough to blog bout them. Of course, who doesn’t love cupcakes, but how many people take the time to blog about them? (actually, a quick wordpress search led me to 180,298 results for “cupcake,” so it seems that lots of people are blogging about them.

4. She is also the cutest little thing – I’m shocked that she ever eats at all, let alone chows down on cupcakes. If I even LOOK at a cupcake I gain a little weight. Some people have all the luck.

All of this led me to ask myself how many other people are obsessed with cupcakes. So today, in honor of my cousin Kristy, I present to you my Kupcake Wednesday post, which will be full of cute cupcake things, a couple recipes, and other baking related items that are sure to revitalize your love for cupcakes as well! Please click the links at the end of this post for more info on these amazing finds.

Yummm!!

Coconut Cupcakes with Seven Minute Frosting and Coconut Flakes
from Martha Stewart, queen of the cupcakes

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup packed sweetened shredded coconut
  • 6 ounces (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/3 cups sugar
  • 2 large eggs, plus 2 large egg whites
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened coconut milk
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • Seven-Minute Frosting (click HERE for recipe)
  • 1 1/3 cups large-flake unsweetened coconut

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line standard muffin tins with paper liners. Whisk dry ingredients (including sweetened coconut) in a large bowl. Cream butter and sugar with a mixer until light and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating after each addition.
  3. Reduce speed to low. Mix any remaining wet ingredients in a bowl if needed. Add dry ingredients to butter mixture in 3 additions, alternating with wet ingredients and ending with dry. Scrape sides of bowl. Divide batter among muffin cups, filling each 2/3 full.
  4. Bake cupcakes until testers inserted into centers come out clean, about 20 minutes. Let cool in tins on wire racks. Cupcakes will keep, covered, for up to 3 days, unless otherwise noted.
  5. Once cupcakes are cool, mound frosting on tops. Sprinkle with unsweetened coconut. Serve immediately.

I hope this post has made you hungry, or better yet inspired you to do some baking (or shopping)! Please remember to check out Kristy’s blog from time to time for new and exciting cupcake news.

Ooh La La! It’s Etsy Wedding Team treasury time!

One of the things that I love about Etsy is the Treasury feature. This is where anyone can create a collection of 16 items that are connected by a theme, a color, or are put together simply because they are items that are loved.

Today I’ve created one that highlights some of the items created by the Etsy Wedding Team – a selective group of etsy sellers that I am honored to be included amongst.  Today’s theme is vintage French!

Please enjoy! You can view the entire treasury by clicking HERE, but I will also post a few pics below.
